A Triad Aviation Academy student celebrates a major milestone at Triad Aviation Academy

In Pursuit of a
Lifelong Dream

From Ghana, West Africa to the cockpit of an American Airlines Airbus 320, Victor Dukuh's journey proves that a career in aviation is within reach, no matter where you're starting from.

He didn't wait for the perfect
moment: he created one

"When I was laid off, instead of seeing it as a major blow, I chose to see it as an opportunity to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a pilot."

In 1998, Victor Dukuh and his family left Ghana, West Africa with one goal: to build a better life in America. Settling in North Carolina, Victor worked grueling 12-hour night shifts at a manufacturing plant, all while quietly developing a plan to become a pilot.

When he was laid off from his job building parts for Ford trucks, most people would have called it a setback. Victor called it a starting line. He spent hours in his off-time flying on Microsoft Flight Simulator, teaching himself the fundamentals, proving to himself that he had the ability to actually do it.

From night shifts to
the flight deck

Victor enrolled in an associate's degree program at Guilford Technical Community College, just 15 minutes outside of Greensboro. After graduating, he completed a flight instructor course and was hired by Triad Aviation Academy.

As an instructor at TAA, Victor kept learning. He built his hours, mentored other students chasing the same dream, and earned the experience that would open the door to the airlines.

with a single step

Victor started with zero flight experience and a layoff notice. You don't need a perfect situation; you need a school that moves you forward. That's what we do.
